But if you want to go on your own with your own itinerary, this is a good option to look into.

How much does it cost to take a bus from Toronto to Niagara Falls?

The advertised prices look cheap, but watch the checkout screen. In July 2026, Megabus tickets run from about CA$17 to CA$22 per direction between the Union Station Bus Terminal (81 Bay St, 2nd floor) and the Niagara Falls Bus Terminal, but by the time the seat charge, booking fee and HST were added, my real total for a same-day round trip was CA$51.95. FlixBus ranges from about CA$16 to CA$50 per direction depending on the day and time, plus a service fee; my test booking came to CA$46.97 return. The ride itself is about 1.5 to 2 hours each way.

Two FlixBus details worth knowing: some departures leave from Toronto Pearson Airport (Terminal 1), and some drop off near Table Rock, right by the falls, rather than at the bus terminal in the north of the city. Check the stop on your departure before booking; the terminal is a WEGO ride from the waterfall.

The drawback of taking the bus is that you’ll miss out on the tour guide’s knowledge, and will need to do a lot more work to plan your trip. That’s why this option becomes better for multi-day trips, as opposed to a tour which is the best option for a 1-day trip.

The GO Train from Toronto to Niagara Falls

Another way to get to the falls from Toronto is to take the GO train. Honestly, this option is better than it used to be, but you need to understand the schedule before you commit. GO runs to Niagara Falls seven days a week, year-round now. The catch: on most weekdays the trip is not a single train. You’ll ride the Lakeshore West line and transfer to a GO bus partway (my July test trip routed through Burlington on the 12B bus and took 2 hours 26 minutes). Weekends are when the direct trains run and the trip is simplest. Either way, plan for 2.5 to 3 hours door to falls, because Niagara Falls GO station sits about 2 km north of the waterfall and you’ll finish the trip on a WEGO bus or on foot.

How much does it cost to take the GO Train to Niagara Falls from Toronto?

The regular fare is CA$21.15 each way with an e-ticket (CA$18.09 if you tap PRESTO), so a return is CA$42.30. But almost nobody should pay that. Here is how to do it properly in 2026:

Driving is the most flexible option if you already have a car: take the Gardiner Expressway to the QEW toward Hamilton and follow it all the way to Niagara. It is about 130 km and takes 1.5 to 2 hours in normal traffic, but summer weekends can stretch past 2.5 hours, especially through the Burlington Skyway and the last stretch into the tourist district.

If you are two adults coming from downtown without a car, a rental plus fuel plus summer parking usually lands within range of a guided tour at CA$99 per person, which adds the guide and skips the parking hunt entirely.

A trip to Niagara Falls from Toronto with an Uber or Lyft will run you about CA$180 to CA$250 each way depending on the time of day, before tipping, so plan on CA$360 to CA$500+ for the round trip. The return costs about the same when you can get a car (more on that below). In addition to paying for your rides there and back, you’ll also likely need to spend another CA$100 to CA$200+ travelling across Niagara Falls. If you plan to stay in the main area where the boat ride, Journey Behind the Falls, Clifton Hill, etc. are, then you won’t need to worry about that. But if you plan on going to the Niagara Whirlpool, Niagara-on-the-Lake, a winery, or pretty much anywhere else iconic in the Niagara Region, expect the travel costs to add up. The transit system isn’t very developed in Niagara Falls, so expect to Uber when you’re there if you plan to see anything outside of the core touristy area. This is the question people forget to ask, and it’s the one that burns them. Yes, Uber and Lyft operate in Niagara Falls, and around the tourist core you’ll usually find a car for short hops. The problem is the trip back to Toronto: far fewer drivers are positioned in Niagara than in Toronto, not all of them will accept a 130 km run, and on busy summer evenings, when everyone leaves after the fireworks, prices climb right when availability drops. If your plan depends on catching a ride home at 10:30 pm on a Saturday, have a backup: the last GO departure or a booked bus seat. Or honestly, just take a tour that includes the ride home so you’re not gambling on finding a driver.

When does it make sense to take an Uber or Lyft to Niagara Falls from Toronto?
