The short answer

Ripley’s Aquarium sits at 288 Bremner Blvd, directly at the base of the CN Tower, so the tower, Rogers Centre, Roundhouse Park and the Harbourfront are all within a 10 minute walk. Mornings at opening are the calm slot; evenings have their own move, the after-5 pm Sharks After Dark entry, when the school groups are gone and the tanks glow in the dark building. Niagara Falls pickup is a 3 minute walk away at 300 Front St W.

The aquarium is the attraction my tour guests rate most consistently in downtown Toronto, and the one where timing changes the experience most. I have seen the Dangerous Lagoon walkway at 10:00 am on a March break Tuesday, which resembles a very wet subway platform, and I have seen it at 7:30 pm, nearly empty, sawfish drifting overhead in a quiet blue room. Same building, different planet. Here is how to do it right, and what to stack around it.

Timing the aquarium

Two windows work. Right at opening, before the school and camp groups arrive, gives you about an hour of breathing room in the galleries. Or flip the day entirely: the Sharks After Dark entry ticket gets you in after 5:00 pm, when the daytime crowds have drained out and the shark tunnel feels like it belongs to you. It has quietly become one of downtown’s better date nights, and it frees your daylight hours for everything else in this article.

Within a 10 minute walk

The CN Tower is literally next door; if you are doing both, tower first on a clear morning, aquarium after. Rogers Centre shares the plaza, and an evening Blue Jays game pairs naturally with a morning aquarium run. Roundhouse Park sits between them with the Toronto Railway Museum in the old locomotive roundhouse. Walk 10 minutes south and the Harbourfront boardwalk resets the pace of the whole day. This corner of downtown packs more per block than anywhere else in the city, which is exactly why our Niagara coach picks up here.

The Niagara day, 3 minutes from the tanks

A lot of aquarium visitors are on a two or three day Toronto trip, and the falls are the obvious second day. The Niagara Falls Day Tour leaves from 300 Front St W, a 3 minute walk from the aquarium doors, at 8:05 am: direct coach, licensed guide, Whirlpool and Parkway stops, 4 hours at the falls, back by 5:30 pm. The CA$159 Package 2 includes skip-the-line boat tickets, which is the aquatic upgrade to yesterday’s shark tunnel. Underwater one day, on the water the next.

Aquarium today, falls tomorrow: pickup 3 minutes away at 300 Front St W, from CA$99.

A sample day that actually flows

Morning at the aquarium when doors open, lunch in Roundhouse Park, CN Tower observation early afternoon, Harbourfront until dinner. Evening: a Jays game if the schedule cooperates, or hold the aquarium for a Sharks After Dark evening instead and give the morning to the tower. Families with young kids do the morning version; couples consistently pick the evening one.

Frequently asked questions

What is Sharks After Dark at Ripley’s Aquarium?
An after-5 pm entry ticket to the aquarium, when daytime crowds are gone and the galleries run quieter and darker. It suits couples and adult groups especially well, and it frees your daylight hours for the CN Tower, the harbour or a game next door.
How long do you need at the aquarium?
Two hours covers the galleries and the Dangerous Lagoon moving walkway at a comfortable pace; add a third hour with kids who negotiate extra laps through the tunnel, which most do. It pairs cleanly with the CN Tower in a single morning-plus-afternoon.
What else is right beside Ripley’s Aquarium?
The CN Tower is next door, Rogers Centre is across the plaza, Roundhouse Park and the Toronto Railway Museum sit just south, and the Harbourfront is a 10 minute walk. The Niagara Falls Day Tour pickup at 300 Front St W is 3 minutes away.
Can you combine the aquarium with a Niagara Falls trip?
The standard play for a multi-day Toronto visit: aquarium and tower one day, Niagara the next. The coach leaves 3 minutes from the aquarium at 8:05 am and returns by 5:30 pm, from CA$99 per person with free cancellation up to 24 hours before.
