White Water Walk in Niagara Falls puts you on a boardwalk at the bottom of the gorge, a few metres from Class 6 rapids moving at roughly 48 km/h. Tickets run CA$21 for adults, the boardwalk is about a quarter mile long, and the site opens from early spring through mid-November. Here’s what the elevator wait is really like, how long to budget, and where it fits into a day at the falls.

About White Water Walk
An elevator drops 70 metres (230 feet) through solid rock, then a 73-metre tunnel opens onto a quarter-mile boardwalk along the river’s edge. At the bottom you’re standing at water level beside the Whirlpool Rapids, rated Class 6 on the international whitewater scale. That’s the highest rating there is, and there aren’t many places in Canada you can walk right up to it. Water moves through the channel at roughly 48 km/h, throwing up what Niagara Parks calls North America’s largest series of standing waves.
Gorge walls on either side expose rock laid down about 410 million years ago. The Whirlpool Aero Car crosses this same stretch high overhead; White Water Walk is the only spot with eye-level access. Plaques along the boardwalk cover the geology, and a gift shop sits by the exit elevator.

Niagara Parks lists the visit at about 60 minutes. Most people are back at the elevator inside 20 to 40 unless they stop at every plaque. Last entry is 20 minutes before closing, ticket in hand or not.

How It Compares
White Water Walk and the Whirlpool Aero Car look at the same water from opposite ends. The Aero Car crosses high above the rapids in a cable car; the boardwalk sits beside them at water level for CA$21 adult, CA$13.50 child. Anyone can ride the Aero Car alone, but the only Queen Tour package including a ticket is our Small-Group Tour from Niagara Falls (CA$249), never a Toronto-departing tour.
Journey Behind the Falls (CA$33 adult, year-round) trades the rapids for tunnels behind Horseshoe Falls. That tunnel walk and Niagara City Cruises (Hornblower) both get you closer to the waterfall itself. Journey Behind the Falls is the better pick if the waterfall is what you came for. Niagara Glen, a short drive north, gives a free but rugged trail view of similar rapids. No elevator, no boardwalk, no strollers.

Niagara Parks also bundles White Water Walk into its multi-attraction pass with Journey Behind the Falls and 48 hours of WEGO buses. Pass names and prices get reshuffled most seasons, so price it on the official site the week you travel.
White Water Walk isn’t in any Queen Tour group package, and we won’t pretend otherwise. Two ways to fit it in. How to Get There
White Water Walk sits at 4330 River Rd, Niagara Falls, ON L2G 6T2, about 4 km north of the falls along the Niagara Parkway. The lot out front charges by the hour, so a quick visit costs less to park. A WEGO stop sits right at the entrance – the green line connects from Clifton Hill and Table Rock. Driving from the falls takes 5 to 10 minutes depending on Parkway traffic.
Photo Spots & Accessibility
Three spots earn the extra minute: the lower platform for the closest angle on the standing waves, the boardwalk rail at the midpoint with the Whirlpool Bridge behind, and the far-end shelter for a wider shot.
The elevator and main boardwalk are flat, so strollers and wheelchairs manage fine. The two lower platforms are stairs-only. Service animals are welcome, and railings run the whole way, which makes it an easy walk with kids.

Funambulist Jean-Francois “Blondin” tightropes across the gorge nearby, in the daredevil era that made this stretch famous.
1912
An ice bridge across the river collapses without warning, killing three visitors who had walked onto it. Ice access was banned permanently after that.
1935
Engineer Alonzo B. Robertson sinks the elevator shaft under lease from Niagara Parks. The Commission took over in 1967, and that shaft still carries visitors down.
Superman II
The 1980 film used the boardwalk for the scene where Lois Lane jumps into the river to test whether Clark Kent is Superman.
